CHEF GENE'S EGG STRATA

10 slices Chef Gene's white bread or a good French bread cut 1/2 inch slices.
Needs to be at least 2 days old, a little on the dry side.
butter, softened (1/2 stick)
3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
3 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
8 eggs, beaten
2 cups half-and-half cream
2 cups milk
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Fresh parsley for garnish

DIRECTIONS
Butter a 9X13 inch baking dish.
Lay bread in the bottom of the dish, cover with cheese. Lay down another layer of bread, cut the bread so it is completely covered. Cover with cheese. I try to get at least three layers.

Whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, and milk. Stir in the salt, pepper, cayenne, onion and garlic powder, mustard powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the cheese and bread.

Cover, and refrigerate overnight.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. 175 degrees Celsius. Bake the strata covered for
30 minutes in the preheated oven. (Cover with parchment paper (spray with Pam)
and then tin foil). Uncover and cook until golden brown on top, 20-30 minutes.

Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Slice and garnish with fresh parsley.

You can also add any of the following: Broccoli, Bacon, Ham, Pepperoni, anything you like.
